When it comes to many things in life, having a support system is certainly a key component to ensuring you succeed at whatever it is you’re aiming for. In this case, we are talking about getting back to leading a healthy lifestyle, which for me includes working out, eating better, drinking less and finding peace within myself. I’m excited because this time around, I’m lucky enough to be doing it alongside a group of good friends.
Going into the new year, I knew I wouldn’t be able to do it all on my own. I also knew I had a handful of friends who had the same interest as me. So, I took to a group text and invited them to join me on this journey to finding our healthy and happy selves again. To no surprise, they were all in!!
We named the group ‘Happy New Rear’ and there are seven of us who can easily share meal ideas, recipes, workout motivation, and even take time to just bitch it out if we want. It’s been nice having them just a text away when I feel sluggish or find myself really wanting the piece of cake in the kitchen at work – I know I can count on them to talk me out of it!
Here are some of the food photos that were shared so far:
A salad, meatballs, a smoothie and two of the meals I am currently loving!
First, the apple with cinnamon. My morning snack is an apple or pear. That gets boring and its so cold that I sometimes want something warm, so I started to chop my apple into small pieces, top with cinnamon and microwave for 90 seconds so its soft, hot and (sort of) like apple pie!
Second is my current favorite lunch. I take brown rice and add cilantro, jalapenos, cherry tomato, avocado, grilled chicken and top with salsa. I could literally eat it everyday! I most likely will have it for lunch for a while. When something works for me, I tend to just stick to it until I’m sick of it and need to come up with something new.
Accountability groups aren’t anything new. This is a method that has been preached for years. However, the facts remain the same that they do truly help people reach their goals through a combination of support, motivation and encouragement. Find someone that you trust and care about – someone that you want to see succeed right along with you – your success in this should be equally as important as theirs.
I am looking forward to moving through this process with them and relying on their support through it all. Why try to do it alone when you don’t have to?! If you haven’t already started towards your 2017 goals – I encourage you to do so now – and find some buddies that have the same interests to join you. Then, trust the process!
Hang in there!
